Young men have
been interested in depictions of nudity since ancient times; pornographic
mosaics have been found in Roman baths and homes. It comes as no
surprise that 21st century boys aren't using the computer just to
do homework and play games. In increasing numbers, they're using
it to access X-rated websites. |

|
Reports suggest
that the largest consumers of Internet porn are boys between the
ages of 12 and 17. One recent study found that 9 out of 10 kids
between ages 8 and 16 have viewed porn online, many unintentionally,
when using the Internet to do homework. Many porn sites don't charge
fees or require users to prove their age; however, a quarter of
all boys 15 to 17 have lied about their age in order to access certain
sites. Almost forty percent of teenage boys admit to having deliberately
sought out online sex sites and studies show many of those will
become addicts because of their age. Both adult and juvenile Internet
users find spam e-mails luring them to pornographic sites that offer
free, anonymous entry. The catch: a pop-up window explaining that
the user will be connected to the site's long-distance and sometimes
international service. Many boys fail to read the fine print and
are unwittingly charged exorbitant rates.
Adolescent curiosity about sex is normal. What experts fear about
Internet pornography is the constant bombardment of violent and
degrading images, which can skew boys' attitudes toward sex and
can lead to earlier sexual behavior. Young people are beginning
to think that all kinds of human behavior is average and acceptable,
so it changes their view of the world during their formative year.
Studies show that regular viewers of porn have more aggressive and
devious desires, and are more likely to act on them. |

| Internet experts
are warning parents on the potential pornography threats posed by
devices such as video iPods and Sony PSPs. These gadgets used for
viewing music videos can be easily show porn clips. With explicit
video clips available for download free of charge, parents should
be vigilant in tracking and controlling use of home computers. By
keeping the computer in an easily accessible place, parents can
keep a watchful eye over their child’s online activity, monitoring
Internet downloads in much the same way they would monitor where
children are going and who they are talking to offline. Parents
are also advised to take advantage of the technology available such
as web filtering
software, which is specifically designed to help manage how,
when and where children surf online – even when a parent can’t
be there. Devices such as the Sony PSP require even more diligent
parental involvement, as they connect directly to the Internet,
giving children easy access to the Web content of their choosing.
In order to ensure that only appropriate material is being viewed,
kids should be educated about online behavior. Parents should open
the lines of communication, engaging in an ongoing dialogue with
their children on the types of Internet content that they are accessing. |

Sex
180
Sex is everywhere... On TV. In movies. On the Web. In magazines.
In high school and even in some youth groups. Yet even with all
of this exposure, a big part of the sex story is not being told
— a whole dimension that goes way beyond the traditional answers.
If you're fed up with our sex-saturated culture and are tired of
being told to "just wait until you're married," then check
out the biblical understanding of sexuality. It's 180 degrees from
what we see or hear every day. It's sex 180, and it's the start
of a sexual revolution. Dive in and hang on, because this book will
turn everything you know about sex upside down. Turn the pages and
join the revolt against our culture's view of sex and grab on to
what God really says about it all. You'll relate to the opposite
sex in a whole new way, and you'll never be the same again. Maybe
your world won't be either.

Sex
and the Single Guy: Winning Your Battle for Purity
One lie from Satan has tricked most men out there: Single guys cannot
live lives of sexual purity. But here’s the truth: we do not
have to wait until we’re married to get our sexual desires
under control! Another lie is that singleness is a rule-free time
of experimentation. However, those experiments can cost you your
dreams and even your life. At the very least, they will quench your
fire and stifle your effectiveness for the Lord. Who wants to tell
someone about Jesus when they feel so rotten over the sexual sin
they were involved with the night before? It’s time to commit
your sexual life to the Lord. Let’s live pure and holy lives,
consecrated and set apart so our heavenly Father can use us more
than we ever dreamed. God is moving, guys. He’s asking who
will join Him. Will we follow our Father, or will we indulge our
flesh? We can do only one — we’ve got to make a choice.

Kids
Online: Protecting Your Children in Cyberspace
Once
the precipitant of Gary Hart's political downfall, Donna Rice
Hughes is now an antipornography crusader. She teams with Christian
journalist Pamela T Campbell to produce a parents' guide to guarding
children against hard-core porn on the Internet and pedophilic
spiders on the World Wide Web. Hughes and Campbell urge parents
to become computer literate, create guidelines for home use of
the Net and the Web, and stock a software "toolbox"
for blocking, filtering, and customizing cyberspace access. More
controversially, they recommend ascertaining whether schools and
public libraries are protecting kids from Net porn and, if not,
seeing that they do. They realize that First Amendment stalwarts'
feathers may be ruffled (they treat ALA and ACLU positions respectfully,
though), and also that better law enforcement and the revival
of the judicially approved concept of community standards for
obscenity would effect much of the protection they seek.
